Graduation Saint Peter’s Primary School
Saint Peter’s Graduation Parts One and Two
In December 2012 Saint Peter’s Primary School in Wem held not one but two graduation ceremonies. With over one hundred students ready to graduate it was decided to hold two graduation ceremonies as we couldn’t fit all of the students, families, friends and local dignitaries in the school hall all at once.
Those students who attained Gold attended a separate ceremony with students from Lower Heath and Whixall at Keele University later in the month. Special thanks go to all Saint Peter’s staff and particularly to Gill Hiley for her hard work in compiling the data and organising the event.
Gill didn’t leave empty handed as she was presented with a Certificate for completing validation training in October. This means that Gill is now a trained CU validator along with all those who attended the event in October.
Arthog Outdoor Education Centre-Validated
In May of this year (2012), the Arthog Outdoor Education Centre celebrated fifty years of service to the schools and wider community of Shropshire. Over that time, several hundred thousand people from the county have passed through our doors. ‘Arthog’ has become a byword for an experience which stays in people memories and one which often influences future paths in life.
The subtle blend of adventure in wild places and firsthand experience of the natural environment provide a unique stimulus for personal growth and learning. We are now very pleased to be able to accredit the learning opportunities experienced during an Arthog visit as a ‘Learning Destination’ for the Children’s University.
If you would like to find out more about Arthog, please visit our website: www.Arthog.co.uk
QiSS Recognition-Emerged Status
Late in November 2012 Shropshire CU went through the Quality in Study Support recognition process at Emerged level. The process is aimed at ensuring that providers of extended services have processes and procedures in place to deliver a quality service. Needless to say we passed with flying colours and were awarded the QiSS quality mark. We found the QiSS process very useful in identifying areas of strength and areas of weakness. Although very process driven and incorporating a fair bit of paperwork the actual recognition meeting was very useful in sharing best practice and horror stories. Shropshire CU Director Pete Jones has attended QiSS critical Friend Training and is now a recognised QiSS critical Friend. For anybody going through the QiSS process or thinking about it…please get in touch as we can provide a critical Friend for Shropshire CU members at a discounted rate.
Saint Leonard’s Graduation
Saint Leonard’s Primary School in Bridgnorth held two graduation ceremonies in December. Both presentations were held in school assembly and another larger ceremony is planned before the Easter break. Pictured are Head teacher Kay Ferriday, CU Director, Pete Jones and Mabel-the first CU graduate from Bridgnorth!
About a New Member- Energy Club
Energy Club is a fun, free physical activity club for kids aged 4-11, delivered by trained volunteers at Primary Schools across England.
We believe physical activity should be a healthy and fun part of the lives of our children. Through enabling kids to be active we'll help ensure they remain healthy and happy; we'll also help them learn about the right food choices.
Energy Club is recruiting, training and supporting a community of volunteers (primarily parents and friends) to help run 30 minute sessions at Primary Schools outside of school hours.
Whether you're a school looking to host an Energy Club, our next Volunteer or a parent interested in signing up your child to join in, this site should give you all the information you need. And if it doesn't, then please get in touch.
Energy Club is funded by the Cabinet Office via the Social Action Fund and we plan to be in up to 900 schools in 2013, this means up to 9,000 volunteers active in communities throughout England.
Two sessions of Energy Club are worth 2 CU Credits!
Data and Graduation
Thank you to all those schools that completed data requests for our return to the National CU. This data will form part of the national evaluation document which will be launched in January at the House of Lords.
Graduation ceremonies have been booked for Lower Heath, Saint Leonards and Whixall primary schools for February and March next year. We will be attempting to plot a yearly graduation calendar in 2013 to give everyone adequate notice. I will be contacting all schools individually to discuss.
Gold Graduation
We are very grateful to Keele University for playing host to Gold Graduation on the 12th December at the University’s Sustainability Hub. Photos and report to follow in the next Newsletter

Shropshire CU has negotiated a great deal with a local printer for providers wishing to purchase a stamp for stamping passports.
Although the cost will depend on content 3S Print has a special offer for CU providers wishing to create a bespoke name and logo stamp for stamping CU passports.
The cost will be approximately £30 for a self-inking stamp and if this is over the budget for some then the can provide a stamp without the ink pad for approx. £20
If you wish to take advantage of this offer please contact Steve at the address below and don’t forget to mention you are a Shropshire CU provider.
